Je Christine is a 90-minute solo performance created and translated from the writings of Christine de Pizan by Suzanne Savoy. Over fifteen of Christine's works are presented in part, including The Debate of the Romance of the Rose, The Book of Deeds of Arms and of Chivalry, One Hundred Ballads, The Ditie of Joan of Arc, and The Book of Peace. Events of Christine's life are explored in autobiographical passages gleaned from the pages of The Book of the City of Ladies, Christine's Vision, The Book of Poissy, and others. French-language verses and epithets are scattered throughout, spoken in an extensively-researched Middle French dialect.
Musical compositions by Guillaume de Machaut and others of the late Middle Ages underscore Christine's poetic verses, setting them apart from prose passages.
Je Christine has toured the United States and Canada since 2016. Click on the menu above to find a list of host organizations, as well as reviews of the performance and support from the scholarly community.
This show is not appropriate for small children.
